older games are choosy about going to widescreen, for most theres a small hack if you look round widescreen games forum.
But for truly great immersive graphics the widescreen is the dogs danglies.
(ok so I buy an upgraded graphics card in a few months...)

it runs a lot better than my old system
If the wallet is bottomless, then specs are easy, but mine ain't so you have to compromise somewhere.

Quote from DTrott :How much did it cost, and where was it bought?

I went for a Dell on-line system,
22 inch monitor, 2 gig of ram
6400 dual core intel processor 2.18Gh
360 gig hd
X1300pro ati graphics card
vista home premium
on-board sound chip
£717.00
Delivery 6 days after paying for order.
Good service. Follow up phone calls to make sure delivery time was ok.
Works straight out of the box. Not the most cutting edge but better than any high street spec/price I could find.
wow!

Got my new system this lunchtime, just been running lfs on it for the first time. I must say this is the most awesome thing - 22 inch widescreen monitor and dual core 6400 processor, it looks superb, the monitor makes it feel like a professional sim experience, marvellous and it all runs like silk.

1) open a default skin, save as a different name but keep first 3 letters the same
2) open a decal, copy it then paste it onto the skin
3) resize it, rotate it, position it where you want.
4) save the skin.

that's it.

is it not just the same as increasing contrast and saturation?
The lfs textures have a slightly toned-down hue to make them look a little more weathered and realistic, turning up the volume, treble and bass on the colour just negates all the hard work done getting the graphics to look 'right'. Oh well, i guess its all down to personal preferences.

Grunt, chill out pls, you post something up here inviting comment then go off into a major 'spit-your-dummy-out' rant as soon as anyone fails to say its the finest bit of work since Stanley Kubrick.
If you can't take the negatives constructively as well as the positives I'd suggest you don't post anything else up for people to comment on.

Why not a thumbnail closeup in-game shot of your favourite LFS car/skin?

Quote from Dru :right, so can you do this in psp (version 7) as well i guess?

Not sure, I'm running photoshop 7

Quote :Does this mean that you have a layer with preset precise locations for a name and number (ie like a text box) that you can edit but keep the format the same?

yes

Quote :Sorry to ask simple questions, but i'm not that hot on this side of things....

that's ok

Quote :also that means that you'll have to save the image as a psd otherwise the layers will be lost right - so you can have a master for each skin and just edit the name and then go save copy as which gives you the jpeg version right?

exactly!

Quote :Also final question how would the 2580x2048 to output a 1024x1024 thing work or is it a long winded process or is it best to just add the name and the number in the 1024x1024 psd version after the skin in its 2580x2048 is made??

Naah, resizing is easy and fast, if your Master Copy is an odd size (for stretching/mapping issues), add the name to that one and resize afterwards, then save as jpg.

Quote :Cheers,

Dru.

Yes, provide a generic skin for each car with a white blank space for writing in the different drivers name, and another blank space on the skin for the number. In photoshop its a 30 second job to change the name/number, save as a different jpg, move on to the next one.
10 drivers, 19 skins, 190 x 30 secs = 95 minutes £45/hr = £71. I do accept paypal.

Yep, you need to add the third option: "it makes no difference to me".
-which is not the same thing as saying "i don't have an opinion....."

Quote :The question is now, who do you respect more, the person who basically devotes their life to LFS or to the person who is a very fast driver but doesn't spend as much time on LFS.

this is a very different question in fact to the one in your poll.
I respect neither, I respect those who contribute to both the community and the online game in a positive way, who race fairly and who participate in a balanced way. racing competitively but at the same time within the context that the game is a leisure pursuit and should be fun. It doesn't matter if they are fast or slow.

My fuel of choice would be water from the reservoir at the end of the lane. However, having tried it in a couple of cars I've found it entirely useless as a means of powering the vehicles. Despite it's attractive cost advantage against the more conventional diesel and petrol fuels, it seems to cause severe damage to the engines. The repair bills so far have offset any of the earlier cost-advantages foreseen so really it's not been much of a saving.
I cannot recommend it to you.

Come on guys, don't get all anal about the maths, its not really important to get the figures exact to three decimal places, it's the idea and the principal (and the possibility) of the thing that's important in this debate.

Note down the fastest current laptime after a 10 lap race.
Then let them run 4 or 5 consecutive ten-lap races and see how much they improve.
